Both braces and clear aligners move teeth using gentle, controlled pressure. The question is which method suits your teeth and your daily life.
Fixed braces
Brackets are attached to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. They work well for most cases, including complex bite problems, and do not depend on you remembering to wear them. They need extra care when cleaning, and certain foods are off the menu.
Clear aligners
Aligners are transparent trays that you change in stages. They are removable for eating and brushing and are less visible. They only work if worn for the hours advised each day, and they are better suited to mild or moderate problems than to very complex ones.
Questions to ask yourself
- Will I wear aligners consistently for most of the day?
- How noticeable am I comfortable with my appliance being?
- Do I have a complicated bite problem?
- Am I prepared for regular follow-up visits?
