If your dentist has advised wisdom tooth removal, it is natural to feel nervous. Knowing what happens makes it much easier. This guide will help if you are searching for wisdom tooth removal in Greater Noida or a wisdom tooth dentist near you.

Before the procedure

You will have an X-ray so that the dentist can see the position of the tooth and its roots, and nearby structures. Tell the dentist about your medical history and any medicines you take. Eat a light meal beforehand unless you are told otherwise.

During the procedure

The area is numbed, so you feel pressure rather than pain. A simple extraction takes only a short time. An impacted tooth may need a small opening in the gum, and stitches may be placed afterwards.

The first 24 hours

  • Bite gently on the gauze for the time advised
  • Avoid rinsing hard, spitting or using a straw
  • Eat soft, cool food
  • Use a cold pack on the cheek in short intervals
  • Avoid smoking

The first week

Swelling and stiffness usually peak in the first two days and then ease. From the next day you can rinse gently with warm salt water. If pain suddenly increases after a few days, or you notice fever or a bad taste, call us promptly; you may have an infection or a dry socket that needs attention.

When to book

If you have pain at the back of your jaw, repeated gum infections or food stuck behind your last tooth, book an examination. Our wisdom tooth extraction page has more details.
